Top 12 Green Smoothies + 1

My new favorite way to get extra veggies in from the farm are green smoothies, or just smoothies in general!  One smoothie a day i’m pretty sure may keep the doctor away!!!  It is a great way for me to get extra calories in or sip on at work during a busy night.  It keeps me fueled, energized and going to get through the night and keep working once I get home, plus it helps cut down on the cravings of cookies and chips…even the gluten free ones.

10 Reasons to drink Green Smoothies

My favorite smoothie of the week is Bok Choy, 1/2 mango, 1/2 banana, small handful of grapes, 1 Tbsp flax seed, 1 Tbsp hemp seed, and a plant based protein powder with organic mango peach juice!

Green Smoothie Tips:

- It’s hard to go wrong with green smoothies, its all about experimentation and playing with flavors that meet your pallets needs and cravings

-  Don’t be affraid of throwing in herbs, roots and spices to change it up

-  Add seeds to any or all of the recipies, seeds that go well are:  Chia Seeds, Hemp Seeds, Sunflower Seeds, Flax Seeds/or Meal, Poppy Seeds, Sesame Seeds

-  Pre soak nuts for 2 hours to 24 hours to get a creamy texture and

-  Use your choice of dairy or dairy replacement:  almond milk, cashew milk, brazilian nut milk, or substitute water.  I don’t measure any of my liquid I just add to get the consistency that I want

-  Make your own nut milks

-  Add your favorite protein powder to any smoothies for an extra boost, I like plant based or rice based protein powders

-  Pre freeze fresh fruit to get a thicker more frozen smoothie like texture

-  Use more liquid to get more of a juice like texture

-  Add Ice to get a crunchier texture

What Kind of Blender Should I Use?

-  The kind of blender depends on what you may already have.  I wouldn’t say go out an buy a new one.  But I do love the Magic Bullet.  Its great for one cup smoothies on the go, plus its easy to bring to work with you if in a hurry.  My dream blender would be a vitamix, but also quite the investment.
