50 Things to do-Sorrel

This weeks share on Cosmic Apple Farms was Sorrel, Chives, Basil and Mixed Greens.  Sorrel is an extremely sour leafy green.  It tastes like sour patch kids without sugar.  I received a large quantity of it and could not figure out what to do with it, until I had an AHHH HA moment.  How do I make a healthy version of sour patch kids in a lettuce form?!  Which is how I came up with a Candied Walnut Strawberry Sorrel Salad! (topped with flowering chives).

Candied Walnut Recipe

4 T. of milk or milk alternative

1/2 t. sea salt

splash of cinnamon

a few squeezes of agave syrup or honey ~ 1/4 C. or if you eat sugar about 3/4 C.

A sprinkle of Brown Sugar (if using agave or honey)

1t. Vanilla

1/2 – 1 C. Walnuts

Directions:

Spread Walnuts onto cookie sheet in single layer

Roast at 350 degrees for 8-12 minutes

Simmer Milk, Sweetner, Salt and Cinnamon in Sauce pan for approx 10 minutes

At the very end add Vanilla

Pour liquid over cooling walnuts(add a little at a time until fully coated, may have extra liquid left over
